Bobath Cymru Charity Match at Cardiff City Stadium

Today, Cardiff City ACC Under 13s boys took part in a charity football at the Cardiff City Stadium to help raise funds for Bobath Cymru.

Along with other Cardiff City ACC teams from the Vale, Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) and Newport the boys were given the opportunity to display their individual and team skills on the hallowed stadium turf.  The aim was for each of the boys to raise sponsorship in aid of Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre Wales.  Bobath is a charity set up to provide specialist therapy to children from all over Wales who have cerebral palsy.

The event took the form of two separate games. Each game comprised three 20 minute sessions to give the boys chance to adapt to the space of the Cardiff Stadium pitch and to allow for the use of replacement.  This was also to ensure all the boys got adequate game time. RCT played the Vale ACC in the first game, while Cardiff took on Newport in the second game.  Both games were keenly contested.

With some lively, quick-passing football, RCT gained an early 2-0 advantage.  And while the Vale pressed hard to get back on terms, they eventually conceded another goal.  RCT turned out 3-0 winners.  Congratulations to both teams for an entertaining game of football in which some impressive skills were on display.

In the second game, Newport took a 1-0 lead in the first session, which they then extended early in the second session to make it 2-0.  With a large squad, it was taking the Cardiff boys a little time to settle and get some fluency  into their play and but for some stunning goalkeeping by Elliott Matthews Newport might well  have extended their lead.  As the second session progressed the Cardiff boys were looking much more threatening.  Unfortunately, with the last kick of the session, the pacey Brandon Griffiths sustained a nasty ankle injury and was unable to take further part.  The third session saw a terrific fightback from the Cardiff boys, which began when  Joe Smith chipped the Newport goalkeeper.  Next a cleverly-worked free kick saw Harrison Lewis play a short ball to Jake Emmott, who then launched a long-range ball into the box, which Mason Lock managed to get on the end of and the score was 2-2.  With time running out, Ryan Legge went on a searing run down the right, thundered a ball across the goal, which Will Fry met with a perfectly timed header to crash the ball into the goal off the underside of the crossbar to make it 3-2.  The Cardiff defence then kept their cool to keep out several waves of attacks by a determined Newport team.  A terrific game all round and a credit to both teams.

Many thanks to Mike Hayward for coming up with the sponsorship idea for Bobath and for organising the event.  Thanks also to all the coaches for making the event such a positive experience for all the boys and their families and friends.  Particular thanks to Cardiff City FC for allowing the boys to play their matches in the stadium and making the day such a special experience.

2010/2011 Cardiff City Advanced Coaching and Coaching Centres

Bluebirds

2010/2011 FITC Coaching Sessions: New Format

This season the format of the Cardiff City Advanced Coaching Centre (ACC) and Coaching Centre (CC) sessions is changing.

For the new season the Centres will be operating with Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16 age groupings.  This means Under 11s, Under 13s and Under 15s will be training and playing with boys a year up.

The new set-up is designed to keep players moving forward in developing their technical and tactical  skills. The aim is to help players develop an understanding of what is  needed to push themselves on to the next level.

Under the new system players will be assessed following each six-week session.  There will be continuous movement between the Advanced Coaching Centre and Coaching Centre to ensure the  development of players appropriate to their all-round needs and attainment levels.

As in previous years there will be opportunities for development days with the Academy and fixtures against other teams.
